Dry ice is made in 50 pound blocks about 12 inch cubes. It is then sliced five times, so the slabs are about 12 x 12 x 2.Ellenellen@dryiceinfo.com

Is there a simple way to produce Dry Ice without having to invest in a very expensive ($8,000 or more) piece of equipment?

Not needing to make a huge quantity, just like 1 50lb block a day or so.

thanks,

BTW, I really like what you are attempting to do. We should talk. We get calls from people all the time looking for dry ice info. Had a guy from LA who was "into" dry ice, but kind of flakey. He never wrote anything about it in our magazine, even though he seem excited about doing that.

You seem really on top of it- checked out your profile too. Real COOL!!

I work in the grocery retail business and we often depend on dry ice to maintain temps on our cases during times of extended power outages. My question is, does it matter how much dry ice is used in closed-door case? Will say 50lbs of dry ice make a case colder than 100lbs or does it get to a point where any dry ice at all will work?

Hi!

I would like to know how much air is expulsed by dry ice?

i.e.: if i want to expulse air out of a tank which is 20.000 liters in size, how much dry ice do i need in order to assure that i will have expulsed all air out of it? (afraid of oxygen!)

any help will be highly appreciated!

thanks,

carlos

Hi Carlos,

To answer your query, (a few months later) one of Polar Ice's 10kg dry ice blocks will displace 500 gallons of air - So I'd say you need 90kg of dry ice for your tank!
